There are countless ways to reuse & repurpose your EPS foam. I would like to offer my top choices from personal experience as well as research I did on the subject. Some are obvious, and some less so. You may have some ideas of your own that I didn’t consider.
This month, let’s focus on recycling. EPS foam is easily recycled! This fact may come as a surprise to many. Clean EPS foam received at collection points throughout the USA is easily densified into compact units of solidified polystyrene. The polystyrene is ready for shipment by the truckload to manufacturing facilities that recycle the material into new products.
Did you investigate Dr. Chris DeArmitt on LinkedIn and follow his posts and content? You will be rewarded with facts, figures, and science when you do!
I can't wait to introduce you to the leading expert on plastics and the environment, Dr. Chris DeArmitt - PhD, FRSC, FIMMM.
Earlier this month I exhibited at the annual World Pork Expo (WPX) in Des Moines, Iowa. This expo is targeted at all things PIG! Everyone involved in the pork industry looks forward to the WPX to learn the latest trends in their industry and network with colleagues and suppliers.
Breaking news from our manufacturing plant in Omaha! Plastilite has successfully molded our first-ever recycled content EPS foam cooler!!! And they are some good-looking coolers. They rival any virgin EPS foam parts in terms of molded foam quality and appearance.
Last week I travelled to Southern California to attend the ISTA (International Safe Transit Association) Forum Tempack conference. Tempack is the sub-program focused on cold chain packaging research, with presentations by industry professionals and suppliers. Plastilite/Integritemp is a member of ISTA, a certified ISTA test lab, and a supporting sponsor of the forum.
Let’s continue the conversation about EPS (expanded polystyrene) foam, better known as “Styrofoam”.
EPS foam is a great choice to protect your cold chain shipments of food and pharma/bio products, as well as cushion your delicate products. I concluded my first blog by promising you facts and figures in support of EPS foam.
FACT: Plastilite wants your EPS foam packaging waste!!!!
Did you know that Plastilite is the industry leader in recycling post-consumer EPS material? Did you know that EPS densifies and can be reused and turned into insulating panels, picture frames and surfboards? And did you know that Plastilite actively offers recycling opportunities to local organizations?
At Plastilite, we are on a mission to make sure that consumers know that EPS is an environmentally-friendly and sustainable option.
This blog will discuss protective packaging, cold chain packaging, eco-friendly packaging, science, statistics, facts and figures. No blowing smoke here! My goal to clear the air of EPS (expanded polystyrene) foam misconceptions. And to spread the good word on why EPS foam is still the smart choice to protect all types of products. These range from fragile items to frozen foods to life-saving pharmaceuticals.
